Interior Formatting - £75.00/$95.00 per format

Can you format for both paperback and e-books?

Yes, I offer interior formatting for both paperback and e-book manuscripts.

How do I know if I'll like your design?

You can request to see a sample of my formatting prior to working with me if you'd like. I'll will need to know what you need including before I start work too, so I can make sure I meet your requirements. It's important to tell me what size book you're producing in inches.

What can you include?

I offer all the essentials including (but not limited to):

  • Headers and footers

  • Page numbers

  • Title page/s

  • Copyright

  • Hyperlinks

Will I receive my book as a PDF?

Yes, your manuscript will be produced as a PDF. I can also send you the document I've been working with, though please note this may be changed slightly by your word processor if it's a little different to mine.

How much do your designs cost, and how fast is the turnaround?

  • E-Book £30/$38

  • Paperback £45/ $57

  • Both £75/ $95

I can usually complete your formatting within 1-2 weeks. Each requested change can then usually be applied within a few days. Please advise me beforehand if your formatting is urgent. Please note that the fees on my website may change at any time, however if your price has already been agreed and your contract has been signed, this will not affect you.

Important information:

Before I begin, you'll be asked to read and sign a contract detailing what you can expect from me, the overall cost and any payment plan/s in place. Please allow me 48 hours to respond to any queries. I unfortunately don't currently offer original artwork or illustrations and will use royalty-free images from websites such as Pixabay.

Copy-editing Services - From £29.10/$38.29 per hour (up to 3,000 words)

Which types of editing do you offer?

There are various types of editing available; I currently offer copy-editing (aka line editing) services only, but if you'd like to know what developmental (aka content) editing is, just give me a shout and I'll explain! Copy-editing looks at the 'technical' issues in your manuscript, such as spelling, grammar, punctuation, cliches, redundancies and more.

Lots of editors have preferences when it comes to genre. I do love a good science-fiction or fantasy book, but I'm an avid reader of most genres and styles, so I'd still be pleased to take a look if you're writing crime, historical or romance etc. I'm also more than happy to work with non-fiction (and enjoy reading personal development books, too).

Oh, and I offer proofreading services (scroll down for my fees)!

What will you look for in my manuscript?

I'll apply three rounds of edits to each chapter in your manuscript (meaning I will edit each chapter three times and only charge you for one!). During each round, I'll be checking for a variety of issues including (but not limited to):

  • Spelling, grammar & punctuation

  • Cliches, metaphors & similes

  • Redundancies & repetition

  • Continuity

  • Sentence length variation

  • Pronouns and initial -ing

  • Tense & POV

  • Dialogue

  • Homonyms

How long will it take to edit my manuscript?

This really depends on your overall word count and if you require more than three rounds of edits. I can assess the manuscript beforehand to give you an estimate if this will help, and after 1 week, a predicted completion date can be provided. By this stage, I'll have seen and worked with your manuscript a little, so I'll have a better idea. If your request is urgent, please let me know when you query.

How is the editing completed?

I use a mix of Microsoft Word and/ or Open Office (though I prefer Open Office, don't hate me), and will amend and comment on the manuscript using the 'track changes' feature. If you're not sure what this is and how to use it, I can happily talk you through exactly what to do, so don't worry. All correspondence will be via e-mail, however if you live in the UK and would like to speak with me over the phone, this can be arranged too.

What do I need to do?

Please send me an email and be sure to include the following information:

  • Your full name

  • The name of your book

  • If book 2+ in a series where the first has been edited elsewhere, are you able to provide a style sheet?

  • Genre

  • Total word count

  • Urgency

How much does it cost and do you offer a payment plan?

I charge £29.10/ $38.29 per hour (up to aprx 3,000 words) or £25.00 / $32.90 for proofreading. I offer a variety of payment plans to suit your needs. This charge isn't repeated for the second and third editing rounds - you're only charged the once. Payment is accepted via Paypal or bank transfer. Please discuss this with me beforehand. If after an initial read through I feel your manuscript needs more work first (prior to copy-editing), I will let you know. Please note that the fees on my website may change at any time as per the following guidelines, but once your price has been agreed and your contract signed, your fees will not be affected if this happens).

Do you offer a free sample?

Of course! Please feel welcome to send me the first 1,000 words of your manuscript for a free sample. This is to demonstrate how I work, the things I look for and if you like my style. Note, this will only include one round; if you choose to work with me, my fees will be for three.

Other important information:

If you are happy with the quote and would like to proceed, you'll be asked to read and sign a contract detailing what you can expect from me, the overall cost and any payment plan/s in place. Please allow me 48 hours to respond to any queries.

Coaching & Consultations - £20.00/$25.00 per person, per hour

What can I expect from my consultation?

Hey, I'm your publishing guru! As your guide, I'll advise and assist with the various stages of the publishing process, and can do all the research and hard work for you. My consultations are aimed at writers who are new to self-publishing and not sure where to start. We've all been there, and it's a scary industry when you're faced with tons of choices, processes and (dare I say it) costs!

If you're in the West Yorkshire area and would prefer to meet me in person, please query your consultation via e-mail.

What can you help me with?

Well, I can offer advice on a range of topics, including (but not limited to):

  • Choosing the best platform

  • Advantages & disadvantages - traditional vs independent vs vanity

  • Marketing & promotion techniques

  • Legal deposits, ISBN and copyright questions

  • Costs and expenses

  • Types of editing (incl Self-editing!)

  • Interior formatting and external cover design

  • Writing basics - grammar, punctuation, dialogue and more

  • Distribution and organising events

How long is each consultation?

I don't like to keep you too long (as I'm sure you'd get sick of me!) but my consults are usually booked in 1 hour time slots and cost £20/ $25 each. However, please get in touch if you require shorter or longer sessions. I'm happy to meet your needs. Please note that the fees on my website may change at any time, however if your price has already been agreed and your contract has been signed, this will not affect you.

Where do the consultations take place?

For your convenience, they run on Skype or through Google Hangouts, but if you live in the UK, they can also take place via a telephone call. All you need to do is request my telephone number via the contact form if you'd like to discuss this prior to booking anything.

How can I arrange a consultation?

Just send me a quick email to arrange a date and time that's suitable for us both, and let me know what you need help with and what's worrying you. Once this has all been agreed, you'll be sent a confirmation email and some paperwork to read and sign, detailing what you can expect, the total cost and anything else you may need to know. Be sure to send payment via Paypal or bank transfer (I accept both!) 48 hours prior to your consultation to secure the session.

Do you offer a free trial?

I'd be more than happy to offer a free 15 minute consultation via Skype, Google Hangouts or telephone call (UK) if you have any questions or would like to get to know me beforehand.

What happens after?

If you require further consultations, you can book these with me at the end of your first session or following your trial. When we've finished chatting, I'll also be sure to send along any documents or information from any research I did prior to your appointment on your chosen topics for discussion. This is just to give you that extra bit of support. Finally, you'll be asked to provide a short (optional) testimonial.
